The Branch Union of Trade Union Organizations of Miners, Metallurgists and Jewelers of the Republic of Armenia (BU TUOMMJ RA) unites trade union organizations of more than 70 % of enterprises in the sector, that is, it represents the interests of about 10,000 workers of the sector.
Trade unions were established in the enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex of Armenia in 1905-1907, when the Transcaucasian Bolsheviks were carrying out large-scale work in the region to establish the international trade unions. During that period, the first trade unions were established in Armenia, including at large enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex, such as the enterprises of Alaverdi and Kapan.
The trade unions established in above mentioned and in other enterprises in this sector presented the demand of the unification in the branch structure, as a result of which the branch union was founded in the 1950s.
At the request of the time, in accordance with the Law of the RA "On Trade Unions" (adopted on 5 December, 2000), the Branch Union of Trade Unions of Miners, Metallurgists and Jewelers of the Republic of Armenia was established on 2 November 2002 at a Joint Congress of BU TUOMMJ RA and “Gormetprofsoyuz” trade union organization. As a result of the Joint Congress trade union organizations of the jewelry enterprises were also united in the BU TUOMMJ RA.
Nowadays, the Branch Union of Trade Union Organizations of Miners, Metallurgists and Jewelers of the Republic of Armenia (BU TUOMMJ RA) unites trade union organizations of more than 70% of enterprises in the sector, that is, it represents the interests of about 10,000 workers of the sector.
